Getting to Know Esteban:

Esteban Valverde-Bogantes received an undergraduate degree in Microbiology from the University of Costa Rica (Costa Rica) in 2014. He completed M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. As a part of postgraduate studies, Esteban studied the species, mycotoxin genotype, and phenotypic diversity of Fusarium head blight pathogens infecting wheat. He joined the Trail lab in Fall 2021 as a postdoctoral associate. Esteban worked on a USDA-funded project using comparative genomics and transcriptomics to study the genes that govern the spore germination of grass-symbiotic Epichloë fungi.
