Getting to Know Ben Smith:

Received his Bachelor of Science degree from Michigan State University in biochemistry and molecular biology. In the Trail lab, he has studied gene function in Fusarium graminearum as an undergrad. Since then, his research has shifted to the effects of silica, frequently present in cereal grains, on the virulence of F. graminearum. The primary focus has been on the production of secondary metabolites, with a special interest in mycotoxins.
